What Is A Billable Call In Pay-Per-Call?

Published

A billable call is a phone inquiry that meets the charging rules you agreed to before buying. Duration matters, but it is not the whole rule.

A long call can still be the wrong trade, outside your territory or a repeat caller. A valid inquiry can also end without a booked job.

Before paying for calls, ask which conditions trigger a charge and which records let you challenge it.

Ask Which Clock Starts The Charge

Total call duration and connected time are different measurements. Time spent dialing or hearing a greeting is not proof of a conversation with your business.

Even a connected-time report needs explaining. Ringba's documentation says a target's IVR, hold music or queue can count as a connection.

That is a measurement definition, not a rule every provider must use. Ask how your provider handles voicemail, hold time and automated menus.

Also ask whether exactly 90 seconds qualifies, how seconds are rounded and which call leg supplies the duration. Get the answers in writing.

HyperTarget describes payable events as campaign-specific. Do not assume another provider's threshold or exclusions apply to your purchase.

The SoCal Pros Billable-Call Checklist

Our terms require every condition below, not just a long connection:

  • At least 90 seconds of connected talk time.
  • A live person seeking service, not spam, a robocall or a wrong number.
  • Requested work matching your selected trade.
  • A job inside your approved service area.
  • The caller is unique for that contractor and trade during the prior 30 days.

Under 90 seconds of connected talk time is not billable. Exactly 90 seconds reaches the duration threshold, but the other conditions still apply.

Our contractor terms explain the full standard and duplicate-caller limitations. A different phone number can complicate duplicate detection; available records guide the review.

A telephone area code does not establish the job location. Confirm where the work is needed rather than guessing from the caller's number.

Our tracking uses provider-reported connected duration. It does not independently identify human talk or exclude automated menus and hold time.

The recording and call records matter when a charge is disputed. A long connection alone is not the full qualification standard.

Worked Examples, Not Customer Results

These examples illustrate the rules. They are not calls we captured or evidence of demand.

  • A roofing inquiry ends after 89 seconds of connected talk: not billable.
  • A roofing inquiry reaches 90 seconds and meets every other condition: billable at $85/call.
  • A 4-minute roofing conversation requests work outside the approved area: not billable under our terms.
  • The same caller returns within 30 days for the same contractor and trade: not billed again.
  • A matching, qualified roofing inquiry does not become a booked job: that alone does not invalidate the charge.

A $250 balance would become $165 after one valid $85 roofing charge. That arithmetic is not a forecast of calls or jobs.

Keep The Records For A Dispute

Write down the call date, caller number if available, trade and why you believe the charge failed the rules. Include the job location when area match is disputed.

For SoCal Pros, submit the dispute within 3 business days of the call date. The recording and call records are reviewed against the billing standard.

Approved disputes return the call charge as account credit, not cash. Losing a bid or failing to book a job is not itself a listed dispute reason.

Our calls carry a recording notice. Make sure anyone answering your business line knows routed calls may be recorded.

Do not publish homeowner recordings or transcripts as sales proof. They contain personal information and need separate permission before public use.

Check The Territory Before Buying

SoCal Pros sells prepaid credit blocks of $250, $500 and $1,000. Roofing calls debit $85; other trades have their own per-call rates.

Contractor routing starts only after payment verification, setup and territory confirmation. No call volume or booked-job outcome is guaranteed.

Start with a free territory check if you need the availability and volume picture before paying. No recorded demand means we cannot give you a reliable call forecast.

Compare acquisition costs using your own booking assumptions in our lead cost calculator. A duration threshold limits which calls qualify; it cannot predict which inquiries become jobs.
